Tired of fighting your own truck every single drive?
On the newer Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon the engine shuts off at every red light. The little A button on the dash turns it off, but it resets the second you start the truck. There is no permanent factory off switch. GM did not leave you one.
Underneath that, a second system is running on every drive. It is called DFM, and it is GMs newer version of AFM. Instead of only switching between 8 cylinders and 4, DFM can shut anywhere from 1 to 7 cylinders down and back on, in up to 17 patterns, deciding about 80 times a second. It is working your lifters that hard, all day long, to save about 1 MPG.
NexDrive 10 Speed turns both off. Two jobs, one plug, every drive.
Factory vs With NexDrive 10 Speed
- ✕ Engine shuts off at every red light
- ✕ A button resets every time you start the truck
- ✕ DFM switches cylinders off and on, every drive
- ✕ Lifters cycle on every single switch
- ✕ Owners sit in manual or Tow Haul just to stop it
- ✓ Engine stays on at lights and stops
- ✓ Auto start stop off by itself, every start
- ✓ DFM kept off, all 8 cylinders on
- ✓ Deactivation lifters never told to switch
- ✓ Drive normally in Drive, nothing to remember
Your truck has DFM. It is switching constantly.
AFM switched a V8 between 8 cylinders and 4. DFM, on the 5.3L (L84) and 6.2L (L87), can shut off anywhere from 1 to 7 cylinders in up to 17 patterns, and it decides about 80 times a second.
It shuts cylinders off on light load
On a light cruise your truck computer shuts some cylinders off to save about 1 MPG, then brings them back. Over and over again on every drive.
Special lifters make that happen
To stop a cylinder valve, its lifter collapses on command using a small spring loaded locking pin that releases and relocks with every switch.
That switching is the wear point
It is how the system was designed to run, so no maintenance stops it. When a pin wears, a lifter can stick. It can start as a tick at idle, then turn into a misfire.
NexDrive stops the switching
With DFM kept off, the engine stays on all 8 cylinders and those lifters are never told to switch. NexDrive helps prevent future wear. It does not repair damage that has already happened.
Commonly quoted for lifter and cam work on the 5.3L and 6.2L. The engine comes apart. The truck sits for days.
Keeps DFM off and auto start stop off from the next start. Plug it in and forget it.
Repair costs vary by shop and by how far the damage went. NexDrive is prevention, not a repair.
Find the port. Plug it in. Start the truck.
No tools. No app. No tuning. No shop. It works from the very next start.
Find your OBD2 port
It is a 16 pin port under the dash on the driver side, usually just above the pedals. Every one of these trucks has one.
Line it up and plug it in
Push the NexDrive 10 Speed module straight in. No wiring, no cutting, no programming, nothing to take apart.
Start the truck. Blue light on.
The blue LED confirms it is active. DFM is off and auto start stop is off, from the very first start and every one after.
Built for the 10 Speed trucks and SUVs
5.3L (L84) and 6.2L (L87) V8 only. For the older Silverado and Sierra, use the original NexDrive AFM/DFM Disabler instead.

Frequently asked questions
Will it fit my truck?
It fits the 2022.5 to 2026 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 (the refreshed trucks with the large horizontal center screen) and the 2021 to 2024 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon and Yukon XL, with the 5.3L or 6.2L V8. Use the fitment checker above to confirm your exact year and engine.
My truck is a 2021 or older Silverado or Sierra. Which NexDrive do I need?
Those trucks use the original NexDrive AFM/DFM Disabler, not the 10 Speed. The original NexDrive fits 80+ GM models from roughly 2004 to 2022. The 10 Speed is built specifically for the refreshed 10 speed trucks and SUVs.
Do I have to press anything after it is plugged in?
No. Plug it in once. DFM stays off and auto start stop turns off by itself every time you start the truck. You will never have to think about either one again.
Does it tune or reprogram my truck?
No. It does not tune, flash or reprogram the factory computer. Nothing on the truck is permanently changed. Unplug the module any time and the truck goes straight back to factory behavior.
My engine already ticks. Will this fix it?
No. NexDrive helps prevent future DFM wear by stopping the switching that causes it. It does not undo damage that has already happened. If you are already hearing a tick or feeling a misfire, get the truck inspected first.
What about gas mileage?
Expect about 1 MPG less, because the engine stays on all 8 cylinders at all times. That is roughly what DFM was saving in the first place. Most owners feel it is a fair trade against a lifter job that runs into the thousands.
My 5.3L never shuts off at lights. Is something wrong?
Check your glovebox label for RPO code YK9. During the chip shortage GM built some 2021 and 2022 5.3L trucks without DFM or auto start stop. Those trucks have nothing for NexDrive to turn off, so the 10 Speed is not the right fit for you.
Is my truck AFM or DFM?
Every vehicle on the 10 Speed fitment list runs DFM. DFM is GMs newer version of AFM. Instead of only switching between 8 and 4 cylinders, it can shut anywhere from 1 to 7 cylinders down in up to 17 patterns.
Does it work on the Escalade, the 2.7L or a diesel?
No. The 10 Speed supports the 5.3L and 6.2L V8 in the six vehicles listed above only. The Escalade, the 2.7L TurboMax and the diesels are not supported.
Will the dealer know, or will it affect my warranty?
NexDrive does not tune, flash or reprogram the factory computer, and it unplugs with no trace. Under the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act a dealer cannot void your entire warranty over an aftermarket accessory. We still recommend you unplug the module before you drop the truck off for service, and plug it back in after.
Do I still need to press the auto start stop button?
No. NexDrive turns auto start stop off for you on every single start, the same result as pressing the A button yourself. If you ever want it back the way GM built it, just unplug the module.
Can I still use Tow Haul or drive normally?
Yes. Drive the truck the way you always do. You no longer need to sit in manual or Tow Haul mode just to keep DFM from switching, because DFM is already off.
What is in the box?
Your NexDrive 10 Speed module, a free OBD2 extension cable, and the free GM Lifter Survival Manual sent to your email.
What if it is not right for me?
You are covered by our 30 day money back guarantee, with a lifetime warranty available at checkout. If it is not right for your truck, email us and we will take care of it.
